The project was an extension of the STTR Phase II which aimed at use of semantic rule-based technologies for development, utilization, and maintenance of Regulatory Knowledge Bases. In a collaborative effort, a team of Howard University researches helped to analyze the current and emerging knowledge representation standards, while the Exprentis team focused on developing an adapter that transfer the Exprentis' Regulatory Knowledge Base content to/from media files formatted according to the Rule Interchange Format (RIF), a standard issued by the WWW Consortium. "Together with the Howard University team, we have researched several emerging standards for representation of ontologies and rules, we selected the RIF standard as the most universal and with growing acceptance by the industry players. Today, I am pleased to announce that we have a RIF adapter that will help to make our Regulatory Knowledge Base more portable, therefore reachable a wider audience of users." – said Dr. Roman Vichr, Exprentis' Principal of Technology and Engineering.
